Changes Coming to Your 2023 Paychecks

Employees may see a change to their net pay starting Jan. 6. These changes are due to new 2023 tax rates that take effect in the new year.

Employees wanting to make changes to their income tax withholding information can do so through Employee Self Service.

In addition, employees are reminded to review and update their mailing address by Jan. 6 before 2022 Form W-2s are mailed out.

2022 Form W-2 will be mailed to employees by Jan. 31. You can also obtain a copy  through Employee Self Service starting Jan. 31.

Employees with questions about their personal tax circumstances should seek professional tax advice.

Bird Is the Word at Parks in January

Spread your wings in 2023. Try birdwatching and other bird-themed activities at County parks. The department is hosting several events to celebrate the 500+ bird species that frequent our biodiverse region.

Early Morning Birding

El Monte County Park is a birding hot spot with an impressive array of avian species. Join experienced birder and park ranger Arnold on a stroll to catch some winged creatures in action. This event includes an easy, 1.5-hour walk through the park. Binoculars and cameras are encouraged.

Nature Craft: Birds!

Get crafty at Potrero County Park. Join Parks and Recreation staff for a fun activity to create a special treat for our feathered friends using items found in nature.

Price: Free 


Duck Walk

Quack, quack, quack! Join park attendant Alec for a presentation on the Pacific Flyway and get a “deep dive” on local and migrating waterfowl. After his talk, he will lead a hike to the pond to identify some of these species - a great place to pull out a pair of binoculars or snap some pictures of birds' unique colors and characteristics.

Wings Over Wetlands

Celebrate winter migration with the birds. This annual event features live birds, avian-oriented crafts, face painting and interactive displays. Kids will learn about bird migration, how to recognize common birds of the lagoon, the Pacific Flyway and much more. Meet at the Nature Center.

Get In-person IT Help at Tech Bar

Are you looking for easy, in-person support for common tech issues and specific IT needs? If so, we have good news for you. The  “Tech Bar” will return to the County Operations Center on Jan. 9. Think of it like our very own “Genius Bar” where County technology experts can help! 

You can: 

  • Get help with issues like Wi-Fi connections, mapping a drive or installing software.

  • Get help connecting to the County network remotely with EAA and multi-factor authentication. 

  • Get computer accessories, like a mouse and keyboard, or other parts for a quick fix. 

  • Arrange with Peraton to pick up items you ordered from the catalog.  

  • Ask general questions about using Outlook or your Employee Timecard (formerly Kronos). 

  • Get a loaner laptop for an on-the-spot swap if your device needs more service. 

  • Get a scheduled laptop refresh done. 

  • And much more! 

Tech Bar doesn’t replace the Service Desk, but adds another option for routine technology issues. More complex problems may require something more, but the Tech Bar is a great place to start. 

You can drop in or make an appointment. Those with appointments will be served first. Make an appointment online and then check in online or at a kiosk at the Tech Bar. Appointments are 30 minutes and are generally limited to one session per person per day.

The ERG Council’s Fireside Chats are quarterly sessions with County leadership on the secrets to their career success. This quarter, the African American Association of County Employees hosted a lively discussion with Board of Supervisors District 3 Chief of Staff Crystal Page, Health and Human Services Agency Deputy Director Lillian Asoera, Chief Probation Officer Tamika Nelson and Office of Equity and Racial Justice Director Andrew Strong.

Topics included:

  • Understanding the role that leadership, equity, justice and belonging have in career progression.

  • The consequences of going about your career without it.

  • How to gain or improve your leadership, equity, justice and belonging skills.

Don’t Miss Deadline to Update Your Mailing Address

It’s time to get ready for tax time by reviewing your personal information in Employee Self Service and make updates before 2022 Form W-2s are mailed to employees. The deadline to make changes to your mailing address and nine-digit ZIP code is Friday, January 6, 2023. 

While you’re logged into PeopleSoft Employee Self Service, it’s also a good time to review your emergency contact information to make sure it’s current. 

Tips to Change Your Address: 

Your login is your six-digit employee ID number.  You must also enter your Self Service password. If you don’t remember your password, you can use PeopleSoft Self Service to reset it or contact the Help Desk: 

  • Sheriff Department 858-256-2100 

  • District Attorney 619-531-4104 

  • All other County employees 888-298-1222  

Once you are in, update your address by clicking on the “Main Menu,” then “Self Service” link, followed by the “Personal Information” menu and “Home and Mailing Address” link. Here’s more information

If you don’t have a County computer, contact your Departmental Human Resources Officer to request an address update.
