Important Mobile Device Update Coming Soon

Accessing work apps, emails and files from your work-issued cellphone and other mobile devices will soon be even easier. The County Technology Office will roll out a new device management software to nearly 5,000 devices starting Nov 16.

The replacement of AirWatch (Intelligent Hub) for Microsoft Intune will occur in phases—so keep your eyes open for an important email regarding next steps!

Future emails will include the additional information you need to download, install and setup Intune. The email will include step-by-step instructions, along with screenshots to follow along.

The update to Microsoft Intune supports CTO’s ongoing efforts to ensure our devices are secure and have the latest Microsoft software functionality. Intune will allow you to use Office 365 apps on your mobile devices such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, OneDrive and SharePoint

Please note, if you do not migrate your device from AirWatch to Intune by the designated migration date indicated in the email, you will lose access to County apps and data including your email!

If you would like to learn more about using several key M365 Mobile Apps, the following training is available:

If you have questions ahead of the scheduled migration, contact valerie.kohls@sdcounty.ca.gov or call 619-540-0125.

Q&A: County Employees Talk Intersectionality

graphic_meeting_1500px.jpg

Is there anyone in the world exactly like you? No. People perceive, react, and move in the world differently depending on their unique and overlapping identities.

The theory of intersectionality was coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw in her 1989 work titled “Demarginalizing the Intersection of Race and Sex.” The theory focuses on how these layers of identity produce a different experience for each person suffering discrimination; how they are viewed, understood, and treated. The end goal of it is “to make room for more advocacy and remedial practices to create a more egalitarian system.”

But how does this effect you, those around you and those you serve? Learn more in this Q&A with County employees on their experiences with intersectionality. (Open the link in Chrome or Microsoft Edge.) You can also find the Q&A on page 5 of the D&I Digest.

CECO Names Champions

CECOChamps.jpg

The San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization (CECO) recently named its 2019 Champions in a virtual ceremony.

The Pledge Champion Award, which is awarded to the department with the highest number of new one-time contributors and/or pledge increases, went to Library and Housing and Community Development Services with a tie of nine new biweekly contributors and/or pledge increases.

And the Fundraiser Champion Award, which is awarded to the department that raises the most funds via one-time fundraisers, went to Agriculture, Weights and Measures. The department’s success came as a result of their raffle baskets fundraiser!

The Champion Awards was created two years ago as a way to recognize the tremendous work the CECO board of directors dedicate towards outreach and fundraising.

CECO is funded by the generosity of County of San Diego employees and retirees through biweekly payroll contributions, monthly or one-time donations, and/or volunteering in CECO events. 100% of raised funds get distributed to local nonprofits via grants and assisting community employees experiencing a financial crisis. Learn more about CECO.
