Department of Environmental Health

From the Coronado Fire Department and Police Department to DEH regarding the 25th Annual Public Safety Open House:

"This year’s event was enjoyed by thousands of local and county residents.  The kids had a great time playing and learning about safety. Surely all who attended gained valuable information.

We want to express our gratitude and appreciation for your assistance and flexibility dealing with the wet weather. Without your help this day of education, prevention and fun would not be the same. We recognize the commitment and energy you put forth, and your efforts are much appreciated.

Thank you so much for sharing your time and your enthusiasm with our community."

Department Agriculture, Weights and Measures

From an email to the Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures:
"Hi! This note is to thank you for your recent investigation into some issues I’d had at the 99c Store in Mira Mesa. You called me prior to entering the business, then let me know when you had completed your inspection. Although I wasn’t home, you kindly left a message on my machine. When I returned your call, you patiently answered all of my questions and concerns. Wow! It’s very impressive—in this day and age—to receive such personalized service from someone working for a government agency. In most cases, one is lucky to even be able to reach a “ live” person. Day after day you go out into the field as a champion/hero for “the little guy” to make sure the citizens of San Diego don’t get taken advantage of by businesses overcharging unsuspecting customers. That task alone must take up much of your day. Yet, you still manage to find the time to personally contact individuals to follow up on complaints—very impressive AND very much appreciated. Again, thank you.
P.S. Bureau of Weights and Measures, you are a unique and awesome agency. Keep up the good work/fight."

Irene Hubbard, Department of Child Support Services

From an e-mail sent by a custodial parent regarding Irene Hubbard, a child support officer at the DCSS Kearny Villa Branch Office:

Animal Services During Lilac Fire

From Becky Kirkwood in a Facebook comment to the Department of Animal Services during the Lilac Fire:

"There are not enough words to express my gratitude and appreciation for everything that you did for MACKI (horse) when she was impounded from the Lilac Fire and taken to the Carlsbad shelter. You guys have treated and cared for her like she was your own and for that I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.️ I want people to know what an awesome job you do under such difficult situations just to save our fur babies, Thank you Thank you thank you."

Brit Colanter - HHSA, PHS

From a customer service online survey regarding Brit Colanter, an epidemiologist in Public Health Services.

"Thank you so much for taking the time to put together the data. The student and myself appreciates this greatly. I understand how busy you are but are still willing to take the time to help support students with the learning process. This allows for a great way to show accessibility to science for the students. As a parent volunteering, thanks so much! [Brit] was very helpful and willing to look into the data. Such a great service to the community."

Pamela Clamser, Probation

From a former client to Pamela Clamser, Correctional Deputy Probation Officer:

"I hope you remember me. You counseled me throughout my time in Camp [Barrett]. And I appreciate everything you did for me. You truly made a impact to my life, and were one of the very few who truly cared... I had a lot to think and reflect about, and I began to realize that being in a gang is not what I wanted. It took me two years to finally make the step to drop out, and as I sit here I reflect on the kind words you told me to get through my time in camp. Thank you. I hope God has blessed you with good things. Once again thank you for everything."

Cesar Castro, Department of Environmental Health

From Laura Keener, employee of the San Diego Zoo, regarding Cesar Castro from the Department of Environmental Health:

"Hi! A bit of a personal note, but just to commend a County employee Cesar Castro.  He came by my residence to investigate a mosquito issues and he was FANTASTIC. Friendly, respectful, knowledgeable, thorough…wow. Also, the mosquito brochure he left is so well designed."

Parks & Rec: Goodan Ranch/Sycamore Canyon Preserve

From resident Jim Mees, regarding the Department of Parks and Recreation and Goodan Ranch/Sycamore Canyon County Preserve:

"I hiked these adjacent preserves for the first time this morning. I was taken aback at how great this place is while having heard so little about it in my nearly 40 years in San Diego. This resource is incredibly valuable and will only become more so as the county's population increases in the years to come.

A few things that stood out for me
• GREAT online presence, including the virtual hike of Martha's Grove on YouTube
• high-quality brochure with accurate and helpful map at the trailhead
• well-marked and maintained trails
• helpful and knowledgeable staff
• with the exception of the high-tension pylons there was no evidence of cars, houses, traffic or any of the 3 nearby cities (Poway, Ramona, Lakeside). In fact, the park is pretty much what San Diego looked like when the Kumeyaay were the primary inhabitants of our region
In short, I can't think of a single thing to improve.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 7+ mile hike and possibly even caught a fleeting glimpse of an immature bobcat. I feel lucky to live in a place that values parks like this."

Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk - Marriage Licenses

From Kristen and Drew on a customer feedback card regarding their experience getting their marriage license:

"Most friendly crew I’ve visited at a County office. Greeted so nicely by Jose at the door. Jonathan quickly and politely served us at the front desk check in. Constance called us up swiftly and was extremely friendly. When I asked to speak to a supervisor to compliment her team, Reyna was super friendly as well. They made our marriage license experience very enjoyable."

South Region Live Well Center - Arturo Torres

From a customer service survey card regarding HHSA employee Arturo Torres, who works at the South Region Live Well Center in National City.

"Amazing service; because of Arturo Torres, I have a place to live. Some people just do their jobs, some go above to help and care. I really appreciate his service - 100% satisfied. He deserves an award or raise. Thanks."

Agriculture, Weights and Measures

From a customer regarding two employees from Ag, Weights and Measures:

“Mark, good morning this is Steve from Ramona. Just calling to touch base with you to let you know that Joe and Marcel did one heck of a job up here this year. Enjoyed them! They were very competent and followed directions and really did well and thanks again for sending them up, again, last week. They went back around and covered the areas where they had been before where new sprouts came up and did a second spraying on those areas. Just wanted to let you know they did heck of a good job and thanks for sending them up. I enjoyed being around them and they are very good.”
