Judy Gervais (AWM)

Gervais was honored by the Agricultural Commissioner for her “efforts in locating and securing an adequate facility for County business and saving the departments a significant amount of money.”

“Judy assisted AWM and the Farm & Home Advisor in moving from their leased facility in San Marcos to County-owned space that had been vacated by DPLU. Both departments were able to down-size their previous space needs with a better configuration in a newer building. Now they only pay operating costs to the County because the County owns the building."

Celina Villa (ARCC)

Villa “cheerfully and politely helped me solve a problem that has been dogging me for the last 5 years.”

“She thought up a new way to find a missing release – to alter the spelling of my first name. With that brilliant move a ‘hidden’ release came up – a release that the credit agencies hadn’t been able to find for years. I am grateful to have been helped by a worker as gracious and professional as Celina. She worked with speed and precision. I live 4 hours away and drove down here. She made my day and my trip to San Diego!"

Maria Quezada (ARCC)

Quezada was commended for “her knowledge, professionalism and kindness” while assisting a customer who is quadriplegic obtain the death certificates for his parents.

“Mrs. Quezada was very sensitive to his needs and was very patient, as he was required to sign the papers with a ‘mark,’ but has no motion in his fingers. Her demeanor was both warm and professional, displaying recognition of the intelligence underlying his debilitating disease. With such a positive, humanizing experience, we both left the office praising County government for its efficiency and assistance to the public."

Mike McNamara, Bobby Ladrido and Marcel Cabrera (General Services)

The three were commended by the Director of Animal Services, Dawn Danielson, for making sure the animals at the Central Shelter are kept comfortable during the summer heat wave.

“We had our air conditioning unit (s) go out at our shelter here in San Diego. When I say go out – I mean big time. It’s a condenser that is big enough to cool 40 homes. Anyway, your staff is right on top of it and if the temp can’t be maintained in the animal wards until the new condenser comes in they plan on installing portable air conditioners. They are very concerned for the animals and checking all possibilities."

Clariza Arguelles (HCD)

Clients described their interaction as “professional, thorough and friendly.”

“Ms. Arguelles provided great service and good public relations.”

“Your inspector was very well-versed in what was needed during the inspection and had a positive attitude. She answered my questions without delay.”

“Ms. Clariza was very informative and professional as well as sweet."

Deborah Bailey and Helmer Rodriguiz (DGS/Real Property)

The two earned accolades for their work in securing a 14.75-acre site for the future Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s station, a $2 million acquisition for the County which involved extensive geotechnical and CEQA work.

“On behalf of the Sheriff’s Department, we wanted to thank all of you, especially Helmer and Debbie, for keeping this thing afloat! You guys saw it through ...”

Anna Hogan (HHSA/Public Health)

A medical provider she works with had this to say about the ongoing training and assistance she has provided to staff:

“What a pleasure it was to finally meet you. I thank you so much for the training yesterday. If it was not for our conversation I wouldn’t have gotten the training that I feel is so helpful to me to do the best that I can in this position.I’m certain that this will benefit me a great deal."

Greg Locke (DGS/Real Property)

Locke “did a superb job” in negotiating an agreement with the Navy to support the Sheriff’s 800 MHz communications system.

“Your negotiating skills resulted in a 5-year rent free lease, terms obviously very favorable to the County. I know that it took constant effort on your part to get the Navy to keep moving forward. I estimate a savings of over $100,000 per year for at least the next 5 years. GREAT JOB!”

DPW, especially the Alpine Road Station Crew

The crew was praised by the Chairman of the Alpine Revitalization Committee.

“There is nothing to me like good roads - not only for the smooth ease of traffic, but for the fine community appearance. I’m always amazed at the professional manner in which DPW and its contractors handle these projects. They perform high quality work quickly, with minimal traffic disruption, and always with courtesy and kindness to drivers.

Monica Sedlund and Manuel Serrano (ARCC/Real Estate)

Sedlund and Serrano "are an example of government for the people at its finest.”

“These two people exemplified service, humility and compassion in what was a very stressful situation for me. I epitomize the ‘housing bubble’ purchaser who has watched double digit declines in my property value for three + years. Your staff understood with great empathy and outstanding service. The present culture at the Assessor’s office seems to know that we are all in this economic crisis together.”
