The San Diego County Library and Indigenous Sovereign Nations Employee Resource Group are hosting a celebration at the Valley Center Library from 1 to 4 p.m., Sept. 24. Join the event to experience and learn about indigenous culture with traditional singing, dancing, storytelling, art projects, giveaways and more.
The event is free and open to everyone.
The Valley Center Library is located at 29200 Cole Grand Road, Valley Center.

Join the County of San Diego Filipino-American Employees’ Association (CSDFEA) and the City of San Diego Filipino-American Employees’ Association for a book discussion for Filipino-American History Month in October. The book will be “In the Country: Stories” by Mia Alvar.

The LGBTQ&A Employee Resource Group invites you to get involved. The ERG has two board member openings: treasurer and secretary.
Nominate a fellow employee or yourself by Oct. 31. Email nominations to LGBTA@sdcounty.ca.gov.
Anticipated time commitment is approximately 3 hours a month.
Duties as Outlined in the Bylaws:
Treasurer
Be the chief financial officer of the Employee Resource Group and shall keep and maintain an itemized account and records of all receipts and disbursements.
Deposit all money in the Employee Resource Group’s account and disburse the funds of the Employee Resource Group as ordered by the Board of Officers.
Provide financial reports to the Board.
Be responsible for signing, with the Chair, all financial checks, drafts, notes, and other evidence of indebtedness of the Employee Resource Group.
Prepare annual report.
Submit annual income tax as required by the State.
Have other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Chair.
Secretary
Be responsible for recording and maintaining minutes of all meetings and actions of the Board and members.
Keep current membership records.
Send notices of all meetings.
Responsible for the official correspondence of the Employee Resource Group.
Have other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Chair.
The LGBTQ&A Employee Resource Group invites employees to join them for an urban walk along the harbor on Saturday, Sept. 17. Meet at 9 a.m. on the south lawn of Waterfront Park outside the County Administration Center, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego.
There will be a 2-mile and a 4-mile route.

The County Administration Center will was lit Tuesday night and will be lit again on Thursday in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Live sessions will be held through Sept. 23, 2022. Each session will begin with a presentation and end with a Q&A session. Family members are welcome to attend the presentations.

In honor of those lost on Sept. 11, 2001 and the bravery of first responders who risked their lives on that day, the County of San Diego lowered flags to half-staff and lit the County Administration Building for the National Day of Service and Remembrance on Sunday.
The County is offering free influenza vaccinations to County employees at various worksites beginning Sept. 19.

In addition, find information on Kaiser Permanente and UnitedHealthcare flu shot events on the schedule.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses.
In addition to getting vaccinated, people should also do the following to avoid getting sick:
Wash hands thoroughly and often
Use hand sanitizers
Stay away from sick people
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
Clean commonly touched surfaces
If you are sick, stay home and avoid contact with others
Please note:  Appointments at secured locations are limited to staff with access to the work site. (This includes Edgemoor, the Psychiatric Hospital and Sheriff Department locations.)

Policies and procedures (P&Ps) help shape workplace culture and reinforce a standard set of behaviors that reduce risk. They are an essential tool for reducing risk, establishing shared standards and expectations for workplace behaviors while providing guidance for decision making. In some cases, policies and related expectations on the workforce are also a mandatory legal or regulatory requirement.
You are not expected to memorize every County policy, but we do want you to keep these best practices in mind:
Make sure you are always using or referencing the most current version of the policy – resist the urge to save copies on your desktop. Policies and procedures on your desktop might not be the most current version and increase the risk of noncompliance and errors.
Don’t operate in a vacuum – coordinate any policy or procedure changes, updates, or requirements.
Is there a legal requirement for a new policy or change in policy?
Does the policy already exist? Seek out stakeholders and subject matter experts.
Coordinate through your own HR representative which will coordinate with the Office of Labor Relations as appropriate.
Speak Up – be curious, ask questions and report concerns. Assume responsibility for knowing, understanding and having a practical working knowledge of the County policies and procedures and where to find them. Don't assume there isn't a policy on it, ask your supervisor, peers, HR representative to grow your own knowledge on it and where to find it.
