It’s February – the time of year when our attention turns to matters of the heart. What better time to give your heart some extra love? You can do that by participating in our Love Your Heart event and getting your blood pressure checked.
This annual event brings together community partners to prevent heart disease and stroke and empowers the public to take control of their heart health, know their blood pressure numbers, and know what they mean.
The best way to know if you have high blood pressure is to have it checked, as there are often no warning signs or symptoms to tell you something is wrong.
Typically a one-day event, this year, Love Your Heart will last all month. This gives us more time to show even more love to our hearts.
San Diegans are encouraged to check their blood pressure by making an appointment with their primary care physician, visit one of a handful of in-person Love Your Heart screening sites if out in the community or check and record their blood pressure at home with a pressure cuff.
(You may even use your flexible spending accounts to purchase a blood pressure monitor. Shop the FSA store from the convenience of your home.)
You can participate in Love Your Heart by:
Checking your blood pressure
Submitting your results, and
Participating in online educational workshops
While supplies last, participants who submit blood pressure results during Love Your Heart Month will receive a free face mask and hand sanitizer.
