General Services wins Award of Excellence – Again!
Friday, March 18, 2011 at 9:46AM San Diego County’s Department of General Services was recently honored with the 2010 Award of Excellence from the California Counties Facilities Services Association, marking the fourth year in a row the County has won the award.
The honor recognizes General Services’ dedication to excellence in all aspects of facilities management, including the use of best practices, innovative processes, automation and outstanding staff development and customer service.
Out of 58 counties and member cities, our County was one of six recognized at CCFSA’s meeting in Monterey last month.
To be considered for the Award of Excellence, General Services had to demonstrate accomplishments in more than 30 areas of facilities management. Achievements that contributed to the recognition include:
- A proactive, precisely-tracked preventative maintenance program
- A preventive maintenance process that prevents pollutants from entering the storm drain
- A recycling program for glass, paper and plastic generated at County facilities
- A centralized, computerized maintenance-management and work order system
- Direct billing with electronic invoices for contract services, allowing the County to keep on top of costs as they occur
- Outstanding staff training programs, both through LMS and on-site
- The innovative combination of storm water compliance and wildfire inspection programs
